Poker Trip Report

World Series of Poker T+3,4

I have a good excuse for no report yesterday, I was drunk. I had a friend who had come in to town for two events, unfortunately lost them both after promising me he was going to win a bracelet, so after he busted out we had dinner in the Chinese restaurant , Gee Joon, in the hotel. Excellent, one dish, the orange and chile flavor beef was incredible. Then we headed of to Harrah's where he is a 'diamond club' member. In the Diamond Club they have a lounge type room with big screen TVs, sandwiches and desserts, a couple of hot foods, and ALCOHOL. We got a glass of cabernet (the good stuff, they get whatever is left over from the restaurants), they bring the huge glasses filled to the brim, the idea being that high rollers play more responsibly after a few drinks. The second glass didn't help, then the half bottle of port pretty much finished me. We then headed downstairs to the outside party area with a very good band and dancing. Home at 4:30 am, up at 6:30 am to take my friend to the airport, back by am, set the clock up for the day, then slept until 4:30pm.

Today was the final of the 2K No Limit, the final table was one of the most exciting I've ever seen, the chip lead and low stack being shared by almost everybody. JJ Bortner ended up going out pretty much as we'd predicted, one 'all in' too many getting called by KK and losing most of her chips. At the dinner break I chatted to Harry, a very nice Greek guy from England, he had laid down AKs to one of JJ's all ins, he hadn't wanted to risk coming in 6th when he was one of the chip leaders. He said he is a 30-60 limit holdem player, has only been playing no limit for two months. He, Layne, and JJ were the only ones really gambling while the other three sat quietly. Right after dinner Alan Korson went out 6th, then two hands later JJ in 5th. The final four lasted a long while as Layne and Harry dominated with chips while Mark and Tom waited for the other to go out, worth an extra $34,000 if they could hold on. But instead it was Harry who went out 4th., he'd come to play and it eventually cost him. Mark Gregorich, Layne Flack, and Tom Jacobs were left. They moved the chip lead around many times, and Tom was almost out of chips a few times, Mark finally went out leaving Layne and Tom. Now Tom's game changed dramatically, he got very aggressive and we saw several all in situations, but as had happened many times at the final table, the low stack kept winning. It finally ended with Layne's KQ dominating Tom's KT on a KQx flop, Tom going all in, and an easy call for Layne Flack for the bracelet. It just ended at 11:30pm, I heard this was the longest ever event at the WSOP. It will be out on the internet soon, well worth watching.

As I came upstairs, today's 7 stud event had just reached the money, 24 places being paid. Tomorrow is the 1.5K Limit Omaha High, I might run downstairs to play a satellite for that, I like games with 4 cards because I can play every hand.

Paul
