Poker Trip Report

World Series of Poker T+27,28,29

OK, 3 days ago, I played two $225 satellites, lost them both, I have no idea what else I did, probably watched a final table. Then yesterday I played a $125 satellite, got back $100 in a deal three handed, then blew it. Then I played another one, except when we were down to 5 I found out I was going to see Star Wars at 12:20am at Neonopolis. I'm not one to suddenly play crazy and it was 11:50 pm, so it didn't look good for making it to the movie. Then 2 people went out and I tried to make a three way deal so I could leave, no luck, one of the guys had a backer so said he needed to play it out. Then we got heads up, again no deal. Then I got ahead and he said OK, deal, but as I was ahead I wanted the extra $100 (the prize was two $500 lammers + $100 cash), he said no, so we played on after agreeing to a $100 save. I finished him off at 12:25am, $1000 richer but too late for the movie, DOH! So then we found out it is playing 24 hours a day over in Summerlin, we headed over there and on the way a giant rock (a real rock, not a poker player) came flying across the road and smashed my headlight. DOH! We got to Star Wars, got out at 4:15am, then I got back, set up the clocks for the day's two events (seniors and some weird stud game), got to bed at 7am, hence no trip report yesterday.

There was a lot of talk yesterday about Brian Nadel who apparently attempted to have a real fight with Daniel, I don't know the details but I know security got involved and that it could have turned ugly.

Numbers were very good for the seniors event, I think it was something like 336 players. What with that and the Deuce to Seven, and the final table of the holdem/stud event all going on at once the place was a zoo today. Downstairs was also a zoo with a line around the poker room waiting to get into the super satellites. I decided to try a couple of supers, my strategy was going to be just one shot ($225) each time, no rebuys. The supers have been steadily getting bigger, the 4pm today had over 160 people and gave away 10 seats and some cash. I played the 4pm, got knocked out in about 30 minutes. I really should have rebought as the blinds were still low and I would save on the $25 vig of buying in again, but I decided to stick to the plan so I got up, then sat in a 10-20 holdem game, and in an hour had exactly made back my $225, wooooo, so I quit while I was even for the day.

I decided to try the next super at 8:45pm, again a huge crowd and 10 seats and cash. I had a great start and tripled up early, this was what I had been hoping for as I now made it to the end of rebuys with a very good stack that would be able to compete with all the rebuys the others were doing. Somehow I got down to the final 18. 10 would get a seat + $400, 11th. getting $2300, 12th. Getting $1200, and 13th. Getting $800 (or something like that). We managed to make a deal where 14 through 18 got $500 each, the money coming from $250 from each of the top 10 spots. I was thinking I'd like to come 11th. as that would pay for my trip with a nice little profit too, but it was not to be. Greg 'fossilman' Raymer was at my table, he played great but went out just missing getting a seat. Mark Napolitano was also at my table, he and I were the shorter stacks at our table, I was in the worst shape after I'd tried to steal the blinds with QTs and got called by the small blind with A9s. We were down to 11 players, I had 3500 with blinds of 600-1200 coming up in two hands, so I was going to need help. Help came from the other table when one of the big stacks made a very small raise with ATs when he could instead have gone to bed and been guaranteed a seat. The chip leader guy to his left decided to go all in, and why not, he had AA. Then the miracle happened, the first guy called! This was a huge mistake, his stack was still good and if he'd been paying attention he'd have seen that others would go out long before he did. The AA held up, Mark has a seat in the 10K event, and so do I!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
