Press Release

Announcing the Second Annual
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure

Presented by:
PokerStars.com to be hosted at Atlantis Casino Paradise Island, Bahamas
Dates: January 5 through January 12th, 2005

In the middle of January, when most of the Northern Hemisphere struggles to stay warm in the midst of a cold winter frost, poker players and vacation goers of all ages and backgrounds will head down to sunny Paradise Island in the Bahamas. The exclusive Atlantis Casino will be the host of the second annual “PokerStars Caribbean Adventure,” supported and sponsored by one of the world largest and most successful online poker sites, PokerStars.com.

The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure will begin on Wednesday, January 5th and will run through Wednesday, January 12th. The eight day poker spectacular is scheduled to include multiple daily tournaments, cash games, satellites, sit ‘n go’s, and the crown jewel of the tournament – the championship grand finale. For the second consecutive year, the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure will be taped and broadcast later as part of the enormously-popular World Poker Tour, shown on the Travel Channel in North America and on television stations throughout Europe.

The Atlantis poker room will include 30 tables and will offer all of the most popular forms of poker, including no-limit Texas Hold’em, the world’s fastest growing poker game. The Atlantis Casino also offers a multitude of other entertainment options, including golf, tennis, water sports, and many other outdoor activities. The Atlantis property includes 17 different restaurants and 18 lounges/nightclubs.

Transportation to Atlantis is easy. There are many convenient air connections to and from most cities in North America, Central and South America, and Europe. The closest airport is Freeport, Bahamas – about 30 minutes drive from the Atlantis Casino.

The buy-in to the championship event is $8,000 ($7800+$200 entry fee). The prize pool is projected to be $2.3 million, making it one of the world’s most potentially lucrative poker tournaments. Approximately 300 players – amateurs and professionals like -- are expected to participate in the main event alone, with hundreds more in attendance for the side action and vacation fun. The previous two world poker champions, Chris Moneymaker (2003 World Poker Champion) and Greg Raymer (2004 World Poker Champion) will play in the tournament and remain for the duration. Both champions, who won their way into the World Series of Poker by winning an online qualifier at PokerStars.com will be available for poker tips on live action play, tournaments, and online poker. Gus Hansen, one of the world’s most famous poker players, who won last year’s PokerStar’s event, is also expected to be in attendance.

“I will be playing in many major poker tournaments over the next year.  Of all of these, one of the best is going to be the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure at the Atlantis Casino, said Greg Raymer, reigning world poker champion. “I hope that all of my poker friends will join me in the Bahamas for a great poker holiday and to enjoy this fun event.”

Best of all – winning a trip to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is possible for anyone that wants to come and play. PokerStars.com is giving away a whopping $500,000 in free entries to players at the site. All seats given away include the entire $8,000 entry fee, a travel voucher good for airfare and hotel worth approximately $2,000, plus $1,000 in spending money. Super-satellites to the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure are offered every Sunday (starting times -- 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm EST), which cost $650 to enter. Other qualifying satellites cost as little as $3 – which means three bucks can turn into a seat on a World Poker Tour event, and perhaps a million dollars in prize money. Furthermore, at least 36 players will qualify to play in freerolls (tournaments which cost nothing to play). For more details, please visit: www.pokerstars.com/2005pca/details.html

"I am tremendously excited about this year's tournament," said Lee Jones, Cardroom Manager for PokerStars and author of the poker bestseller, "Winning Low Limit Hold'em." "The Atlantis is an extraordinary resort, and thousands of people go there for the fun, sun, snorkeling, and relaxation.  We're taking all that and adding the excitement of a televised World Poker Tour event, featuring our two world champions: Chris Moneymaker and Greg Raymer.  And we're running dozens of satellites on PokerStars.com so everybody has a chance of winning a trip to join us."
