THE TROPHY & $123,033
GO TO
ROBERT PERRY!$
The 308 entrants who began play on Sunday in the 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic $1500 No-Limit
Championship were pursuing a prize pool of $410,795. Sixteen returned at Noon to vie for the top prize and when the
contest was over, Rob Perry of Highland Beach, FL, was the winner of the Championship Trophy, commemorative
leather jacket and $123,033!
It took an hour and a half to get to the Final Table and one hand for 10th place to be decided. The short
stack, Mark Herm of Royersford, PA, took a chance with J2 but Mark Carlson had pocket 7's which held up; Mark
took home $4,313. Pocket 7's were also the undoing of Keith Mason who was all-in for 120K with AK. Casey
Jarzabek hit a set on the flop and Keith had 9th place money of $5,151 to take back to the Bronx, NY. The next hand
Casey eliminated Jessica DeSantis of Garden City, NY, who was all-in with A9. Casey once again had a pocket
pair (8's) and with no help on the board Jessica finished in 8th position good for $6,162. Shortly thereafter, Casey
was back to work. Michael Omelchuk had been all-in several times with no callers but Casey called Michael's A6
with A9. Michael picked up a flush draw on the flop but the turn and river were no help; a river 9 gave Casey a pair
and sent Michael home to Bellport, NY, with $9,038 for 7th place.
Mark Carlson, a resident of Wilbraham, MA, was able to improve on his 29th place in the $1000 No-Limit
and his 13th in the $600 No-Limit by finishing 6th today. Mark went all-in with pocket 9's but Rob Perry had pocket
Q's which held up to leave Mark a winner of $13,145. Thomas Laviano went all-in for 225K over Rob's 30K bet
with K7. But Rob showed pocket A's, and with no help from the board, Thomas, a resident of Glen Head, NY, was in
5th place with $19,308. Mike Manulla had Victor Amereno covered by 8K when he called Vic's all-in. Vic had
AK and Mike K9 but a 9 on the flop gave Vic $25,469 to take home to Stamford, CT.
With 3 players remaining Mike Manulla of New Britain, CT, trailed Rob and Casey by a large margin
even after the previous hand. He doubled up once through Casey but still lagged the others by a 3 to 1 margin. With
the blinds at 8K/16K, Mike saw his stack eroding. He finally was all-in from the SB with K6; Rob, in the BB, called
with 87 and a 7 on the river placed Mike in 3rd position with $35,739.
Entering heads-up play Rob Perry had almost a 300K chip advantage over Casey Jarzabek which Rob
judiciously increased to over 500K through the next level of play. In the final hand Casey bet 50K pre-flop, Rob
raised to 150K and Casey went all-in with A10. Rob called immediately with AQ and an A on the turn and a Q on the
river placed Casey in 2nd place with $71,068 to take back to St Catharines, Ontario, Canada.
And Rob Perry was the 2008 Foxwoods Poker Classic $1500 No-Limit Hold'em Champion!!
