Sigh!

By: Acevader

Still having a really tough time of it at poker - so far today I've booked around 3 hours and dropped just shy of $500 putting me back to around even overall. I really was getting murdered today and couldn't hit to save myself - when I did I got no action or drawn on. I've included some hands. The first one is yet another failed coin flip. I've now had 5 big coin flips since I started playing for a living and have lost them all. Cumulatively the pot count is around $2000 and I've had none of it come my way :(

Anyway, this first hand is interesting because I had to make a brave play following a read. I'd been 3-betting villain 1 a fair bit so I decided to just call with the 88 in position and not potentially push him to 4-bet me light forcing me to fold. Villain 2 then pops it up to $40. Villain 2 is a solid and capable player but he does 3-bet light. There was something about the value and speed of this raise that screamed of an AK type hand and I felt with the existing overlay this was a good spot to push even though my hand is fairly transparent as a middling pair. I'm actually a little surprised that he called with AQ but then I guess he put me on what I had with a degree of accuracy. This is a very rare type of play from me and it took quite a lot of guts to go with my read; pretty hacked off I didn't find reward yet again!

This hand finally got me to scream out in anger! This table was full of top drawer players and I'd hung around breaking even against them just to target the one fish (villain in the hand). I'd played 3 hours and not had a sniff of anything against him and then he puts me to a tough little decision on this flop when I hold KK. I'd seen him slowplay to hell before so I figure he'd slowplay a 10 here and thus I must be ahead so I shove and of course he calls and hits.
