Biggest Poker Win Ever!

Thursday, June 14, 2007

By: Acevader

Ya f%&*ing dancer! I finally had my big evening and it qualifies as my biggest cash game win ever. In fact, at $2372 I think it's my single biggest poker evening to date, as I'm sure my best win previously was a live tourney for £1100.

I'd love to take credit for outstanding play leading to my big score but in truth there were 3 hands that were pretty much coolers for my opponents. I started, as I said I would, at NL$600 with a $240 investment. I played for about half an hour and my key hand was AA vs QQ which held with the money going in preflop. This and a few small pots here and there put me to $400 up for the evening so I chose to invest that in an 'all or even' parlay into NL$1000.

The waiting lists at NL$1000 were huge but there were two <$300 stacks playing heads up on a 6-max table and one of them had fishy stats. I took a seat and played some 3-way but thankfully the table quickly filled with fish all buying in for less than $500. It was pretty aggressive given the tight margins for error and I found myself down to around $200. I managed to battle back to $400 before settling back into my game. One player was starting to get a little frisky and I managed to snap off a few bluffs of his to improve my stack:

I played this one a little differently from my normal style. My reasons for not betting the flop and turn were that I had some nice showdown value but couldn't take much heat on that board and villain was prone to making plays and inducing difficult decisions.

SB had 4s 8s ([4s 8s] Ten Nine high) and LOST (-$265.00)
Hero had 9s 8h (a pair of Nines) and WON (+$273.00)

The table started to break up and I found myself heads up with around $750 against a player with $800 who had only recently taken a seat. Auto-post was on and so we quickly rattled through a few hands. I dropped $100 or so and felt compelled to play a little longer to chase it (uh-oh, the heads up trap!). A 3-bet and a few raises later and I was about $40 up on the guy and ready to bail. It then occurred to me that it would appear as a bit of a poor show to get up after a few minutes of play then bail out, so I played on to figure out what I was going to do when I doubled through with this dream hand:

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $5/$10 Blinds - 2 Players - (http://www.legopoker.com/hh)

Hero (BB): $705.00
SB: $950.00

Preflop: Hero is dealt 8h Ah (2 Players)
SB raises to $35.00, Hero calls $25.00

Flop: ($70) 6h 8d 2h (2 Players)
Hero checks, SB bets $55.00, Hero raises all-in to $670.00, SB calls $615.00

Turn: ($1410) Qc (2 Players - 1 All-In)

River: ($1410) 7h (2 Players - 1 All-In)

Pot Size: $1,410.00 ($0.50 Rake)

SB had Ac 8c (a pair of Eights) and LOST (-$705.00)
Hero had 8h Ah (a flush, Ace high) and WON (+$704.50)

My opponent immediately bought back in for $1000 and now I really would be taking the piss to leave so I figured I'd have to play for at least 20-30 minutes and give him some warning of my intention to quit (5-10 mins). However, about 2 hands after he bought back in this happened:

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $5/$10 Blinds - 2 Players - (http://www.legopoker.com/hh)

Hero (BB): $1,404.50
SB: $1,000.00

Preflop: Hero is dealt Kc Kd (2 Players)
SB raises to $35.00, Hero raises to $115.00, SB raises to $350.00, Hero raises all-in to $1,404.50, SB calls all-in for $650.00
Uncalled bet of $404.50 returned to Hero

Flop: ($2000) 8h 4d 6h (2 Players - 2 All-In)

Turn: ($2000) Qs (2 Players - 2 All-In)

River: ($2000) 3d (2 Players - 2 All-In)

Pot Size: $2,000.00 ($0.50 Rake)

SB had Jh Jc (a pair of Jacks) and LOST (-$1,000.00)
Hero had Kc Kd (a pair of Kings) and WON (+$999.50)

My opponent then left and I was free to collect my biggest poker pay day ever :) To say I'm chuffed is an understatement! Now, the plan was to tackle these situations by re-investing my profits in even higher levels meaning I should be considering jumping on to NL$2000 with $1000 or possibly playing even higher but I'm not prepared to take on that sort of risk yet. I'll divide my $2400 into 6 blocks of $400 that will independently be used to buy into NL$1000 and try and further my success. This still allows me to take a few shots at a fairly high level, but means it is less likely I'll find myself losing my $2400 in just one or two bad hands. If, for example, I was to run my $400 up to $1500 then I'd not hesitate to dump $1000 onto a high stakes table and go for it - that's the point of my system but for now I'll look to be a little more careful with my profit from this evening.

My only difficult decision tonight was this hand - My opponent was 26/10/2.5:

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $5/$10 Blinds - 6 Players - (http://www.legopoker.com/hh)

SB: $283.00
Hero (BB): $868.50
UTG: $1,035.75
MP: $375.00
CO: $840.00
BTN: $579.50

Preflop: Hero is dealt 7s Kc (6 Players)
UTG calls $10.00, MP folds, CO calls $10.00, BTN folds, SB calls $5.00, Hero checks

Flop: ($40) Kh Kd Ts (4 Players)
SB bets $40.00, Hero calls $40.00, UTG folds, CO raises to $120.00, SB folds, Hero calls $80.00

Turn: ($320) 2c (2 Players)
Hero checks, CO bets $200.00, Hero folds
Uncalled bet of $200.00 returned to CO

Pot Size: $320.00 ($3 Rake)

Bankroll currently stands at $8,483.50 which is a new peak for me and according to my standard multi-tabling roll requirements I'd be able to play 4-6 tables of NL$400.
